Why a Ragdoll?

Ragdoll cats have often had their temperament compared to that of the loyalist canine companion. They are renowned for converting many a dog lover and are highly trainable. A friend of mine has told me the story of her Ragdoll being trained to use the toilet! They are known to fetch toys on command and I have one that growls like a dog. They are very much a people friendly cat, but if you don't want a cat that is going to follow you everywhere (and I mean everywhere) perhaps the Ragdoll is not for you.
They have a very placid, laid back personality which makes them a suitable pet for all ages. They are highly tolerant, making them perfect for young children as they flop and become limp when they are picked up, hence how they developed their name "Ragdoll". This trait makes them very easy to handle and avoids scratching or resistance. Due to their nature Ragdolls are strictly an indoor breed and are very suitable as an apartment cat.
Ragdolls grow to be quite large and generally range in size from 4 - 9 kilograms depending on sex and of course genetics. They are slow maturing and do not generally reach full size until they are 4 years of age.
Ragdolls have a great variety of colours and patterns available and their full colour is not visible until they are about 2 years. Their traditional colour range is seal and blue, but more recent colour developments include chocolate, lilac, red and cream. Patterns come in three standard forms point, bi-colour and mitted. These can also be varied by the inclusion of the lynx overlay which is commonly referred to as "tabby".
Ragdoll kittens are born white, darker colours like seal are generally visible in the first 7 days after birth, but lighter colours can be harder to determine. Their blue eyes and their rabbit like fur ensure that not only are you getting a kitten with a fantastic temperament, but are absolutely stunning as well. They are easily groomed and considering their coat length, are relatively low maintenance.
